A lot of people ask me how I got both my websites www.christiancollages.com and www.mychurchwebsite.com both to the number 1 spot in google, yahoo and msn, for the keywords I wanted. Well it wasn’t by accident. I put alot of time and study (and NOT alot of money) into optimizing both of them. The stats so far are like this:

I optimized for 1 specific keyword, Church Website Design. The rest I guess just fell in place.

Yahoo #1 out of 23,800,000
Msn #1 out of 928,824

Google #1 out of 21,100,000
Yahoo# 24 out of 69,900,000
Msn #17 out of 1,015,249
Keyword: Church Website Rank:
Google #1 out of 43,800,000
Yahoo #6 out of 90,000,000
Msn #3 out of 7,307,008

Keyword: Worship Backgrounds Rank:
Google #1 out of 2,060,000
Yahoo #1 out of 1,520,000
Msn #1 out of 789,697
Keyword: Christian powerpoint backgrounds Rank:
Google #2 out of 792,000
Yahoo# 20 out of 334,000
Msn #1 out of 79,000
Keyword: Worship Images Rank:
Google#2 out of 1,960,000
Yahoo#6 out of 12,540,000
Msn#8 out of 639,593
These numbers are NOT to brag (heck, alot of the secondary search terms I listed are not ranked that well on google and yahoo) but just to show you that you CAN optimize yourself like I did and not have to pay someone thousands. I mean if you WANT to pay me thousands to do the same, I’ll take it! Ha ha. Kidding. Now if you really don’t have the time to do it, then you SHOULD pay someone who knows what they are doing to help with the church website optimization… as long as you are aware of the realities.
How do you know if you need to optimize your church website? Well, if someone enters your exact church name along with the city and state, and it doesn’t show up as number 1 in every search engine, you NEED your site optimized.

Did you achieve these ranking through RSS feeds or constantly adding new content? I have done a lot of reading and study myself on the subject, but I get stuck when faced with the decision of paying someone to find keywords…I hope this makes sense! Let me know your thoughts on this, and I’ll hold out until your next post!
Hey bryan! Thanks for leaving a comment :-) To answer your question, no I did NOT use ANY rss feeds. And I really don’t keep adding new content that much. The front pages of both those sites has pretty much stayed the same.
This is the problem with all that advice out there. There is an OVERKILL of it… it can make your head spin. But I got to it the old fashioned way of optimizing my site, and waiting. If your domain name is less than a year old, you might not make it to the frontpage of google too. So just be aware of that. Im not sure how their algorithm works now, but thats what people were finding.
